Men, it is 2021! And that means it is high time you took a critical look at certain parts of your wardrobe. More specifically, the parts that aren’t usually visible under the rest of your streetwear or business formal outfit. That’s right, we’re talking about your underwear. Now, before you go on a rant about how you have the best Y-fronts ever made, hear us out. The standard male underwear drawer is the stuff of nightmares. Captain Underpants would have to call for backup!
And, it’s not just about having the wrong sort of underwear, it is also about the condition they’re in. Unfortunately, the notion that males aren’t very particular about laundry and hygiene has some truth to it. You have more than one old pair that’s overstayed its welcome in your undies drawer, haven’t you? Do they need to be replaced? Ask yourself this. Could you survive the embarrassment of having to undress in front of while wearing a pair of torn or frayed briefs? If the answer is no, it may be time for you to upgrade to better pairs of mens boxers and other aesthetic types of male underpants. Don’t know which to choose? Read on to find out.
The Everyday Trunks
The everyday man needs an everyday pair of pants. But he also needs a pair of everyday underpants to go under it. This is the underwear you’d normally be wearing to the office, or wherever you go during your regular work routine. The everyday trunks aren’t meant to be seen, but they sure need to be felt. Meaning, they should be comfortable and breathable. If you’re working full-time, you’ll likely have it on for almost half the day. Don’t torture yourself with something that’s tight, uncomfortable, restrictive, or lacks the ability to wick sweat away from your privates.
Boxer Shorts for Special Nights
You never know when you may get lucky (although it may take longer if you’re still adhering to outdated gender norms). But on the off chance that you do, and you know in advance that you have a special night ahead of you, don’t you dare show up in your smelly dailies. Do yourself, and your potential partner, a favor by investing in some high-quality and aesthetic boxer shorts. If you can afford to, you may want to consider a higher-end brand than the ones you usually wear. After all, unless you’re a very lucky guy, you probably won’t get to show it off very often. And if you do get the opportunity, you want to make sure the presentation is right.
The Comfortable Whiteys
You need better underwear than many of you currently own, and different types for different purposes. Of course, that’s not to say the classic white underpants don’t have a place in your underwear drawer anymore. Once known as “tightie-whities”, a pair of white cotton briefs or boxers these days is very different from the ones from decades ago. Manufacturers use better cotton yarn, and typically use a blend of modern fabrics that can improve comfort and wearability. In any case, you can expect a breezier feeling on those hot summer days.
Budget Underwear
This isn’t your typical fashion logic, but you don’t have to break the bank just to get a pair of designer underwear. If you can afford to, go for them. But if you can’t, you don’t have to settle for an ugly pair either. Budget apparel brands and stores are all around you, from your local mall to your Instagram ads. Look for something that appeals to you without endangering your budget or savings. The purpose is to pick a pair that is easy to use, and won’t make you feel embarrassed if you undress with other people around, such as in a sauna, locker room, gym shower, or a partner. As long as it looks good and keeps your privates comfortable, you can forego the brand logo.
Underwear for Working Out
This is one type of underwear that all men need these days. In particular, athletic males and those that live an active lifestyle need separate types of underwear, specifically for when they work out or hit the track. When working out, the human body usually releases a lot of sweat. While working up a sweat in a gym is good work, the odor of sweat can often be less rewarding. If your underwear absorbs sweat and microbes, it could acquire a stale smell. That’s why you should not only keep gym underwear separate but also choose durable and breathable fabrics. Most importantly, those pairs of underwear are only for when you are working out.
